MPA-CGDC Program Overview

The one-year Master of Public Administration in Chinese Governance for Developing Countries (MPA-CGDC) is sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce. The goal of this program is to enhance the communication and mutual understanding among developing countries. MPA-CG concentrates on the development and governance in contemporary China, especially the social, economic, and political transition since its reform and opening up in late 1970s. Prospective participants of this program are elites in governments, NGOs and private sectors. Participants admitted in the program will, upon successful fulfillment of required credits and a master thesis, be awarded an MPA degree. All admitted participants are offered a full scholarship, covering tuition and living expenses. From 2011 to 2021, more than 180 MPA-CGDCstudents from over 40 different countries successfully graduated from SOG.

Prospective Students

Our prospective students are mid-to-senior level officials or leaders from the government, academic institutions, NGOs, and other public sectors, who have demonstrated superior performance in their work and sufficient English proficiency to conduct their study. By the time of matriculation, each must have obtained an undergraduate bachelor's degree.

Program Objective 

To foster graduates that will be distinguished by solid policy analysis skills and strong leadership in dealing with a variety of governance issues grounded in a comparative perspective.

Financial Aid

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce will provide "Chinese Government Scholarships" to admitted students from developing countries. The scholarship covers both tuition and living expenses. It also includes a round-trip international airfare for all the students, and a maximum of 2 round-trip international airfares for home visits applicable only to doctoral students (one time per year set at the end of an academic year). In terms of living expenses, it is 36000RMB/year for the master program, and 42000RMB/year for the doctoral program. There is also a settlement allowance of 3000RMB/person.
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce only offers scholarship during the normal study period. Scholarship will NOT be offered if students need to extend study period.

Teaching Methods

This program applies multidisciplinary perspectives emphasizing both theoretical and methodological training to improve the understanding of the origin, development, and approaches of Chinese governance. Our highly interactive and collaborative courses combine lectures, seminars, case-studies and fieldwork.

Degrees

A degree on Master of Public Administration will be conferred upon a candidate in the master program after his/her successful completion of required Chinese language proficiency  、credits and thesis.

Campus Facilities

Accommodation: The program is held on Guangzhou South Campus. IMPA students will be accommodated in International Student Dormitory with furnished beds (pillow, bed-sheet, and quilt). Each room is equipped with air-conditioner, Television and separated bathroom with shower. Every room in the dormitory has access to wired Internet, but computer is not provided. For your safety, power appliances like electric stove are prohibited in the room.
Dinning: Guangzhou is famous for its delicacies. Students can use their campus cards to eat at any of the universities cafeterias. There are also numerous affordable dining options nearby the university.
