Dean's Message

The time-honored political science and the emerging public administration science share the academic vision of “good government” and “good governance”. The School of Governance of Sun Yat-sen University has been established with the mission of pursuing “good governance in China and the world” . It has demonstrated the school’s spirit of caring for the public, looking from a global perspective, and implementing high academic consciousness.
 

When recalling the study of law and politics over the past century and looking back on the revitalization of this discipline in the past thirty years, we respect the forerunners of our school for their extraordinary morality and knowledge and appreciate their hard-earned achievements; we thank the mainstay scholars for their persistent contributions pioneering spirits; and we also admire the young generations for their courageous and youthful vigor and support their beautiful dreams.
 

The energy of history is gathered in the present. At the present stage, we are committed to pursuing a “real utopia” with political science that has complete systems, unique features, profound traditions, and appropriate approaches as well as  public administration science that is renowned in China and the world. To achieve this goal,  it is necessary to choose the right paths to construct the subject of political science to realize its academic vision. In addition, we need to further develop the subject of public administration science by revitalizing the study of traditional public administration, meeting national and social needs through the public policy research and using the digital governance theory to resolve challenges that the new technological revolution pose.
 

We will be dedicated to creating and maintaining a school culture that upholds equality, mutual respect, and reciprocal support. By doing this, we hope that our school will become an ideal place for our faculty and students to carry out better research on “good government” and “good governance” , and academic cooperation and good friendship will be built here. We also wish that all of us can obtain the power of purity that excels trivial lives and daily work in an era filled with complexity.
