International Conference in 2019
To foster research in political science and public administration, School of Government is active in hosting international conferences on cutting edge issues in both fields in 2019. Scholars and experts from all over the world are welcomed to participate and share their research and expertise through the academic platform provided by SOG. Here are some highlights of the international conferences of 2019.
1. International Conference on Social Governance and Public Policy: Comparative Studies on East Asia
Date: September 21-22, 2019
Organizers: School of Government, SunYat-sen University; Institute of State Governance Studies, Peking University; Sungkyun Institute of China Studies, Sungkyunkwan University; Co-innovation Center for State Governance
More than 50 experts and scholars from Peking University, Jjilin University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Tsinghua University, Wuhan University, Sungkyunkwan University, Seoul national University, Sejong University, Korea University and Melbourne University attended the conference.
Social governance and public policy are two common issues concerned by both political science and public administration scholars. China, South Korea, Japan and other East Asian countries have explored social governance and public policy innovation in different fields at different periods and formed different development modes. The researchers carry out more discussion and disputes, including comparison of different developing mode, exploration of its inner logic mechanism and analysis of new challenges emerge in every model. The conference focused on the theme "Social Governance and Public Policy", including social policy in East Asian countries, social governance, community-level social governance, rural governance, innovation in social governance, policy process and regulatory policies.
The fully communication has promoted a high-quality and strong dialogue between China and international academic institutes to get together for offering theoretical support and policy advice to the transformation of Chinese governance.

2. The China-Australia Dialogue on Public Administration:An International Conference
Date: November 6-7, 2019

The China-Australia Dialogue on Public Administration has been held its ninth annual Workshop at Sun Yat-sen University in 2019. It attracted a total of 30 experts and scholars from Australia, China's mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong, as well as practitioners from the public sector to participate.
It is globally that public administration today is impacted by new technology development. The theme of the current annual workshop, namely, " Taking Advantage of New Technology ", is a highly relevant one. In response to realizing effective transformation of public governance under the background of rapid development of new technologies, we have engaged in an in-depth discussion on improving public services for citizens and implications for performance improvement managing new technologies and thier risks, practitioners forum, and the role of government in enabling technological change. This workshop provides theoretical support for improving the government's ability to respond to the needs of citizens and to promote the transformation and development of public governance.
Previous workshops have explored such issues of shared interest as citizen-centered service, inter-governmental relations, public sector human resources management, budgeting and financial management, institutional structures for accountability and performance and urban governance. Most have led to the publication of papers in symposiums in prominent journals.

3. Asia Forum on Social Welfare and the 11th Annual Conference of Chinese Academic Association of Social Welfare

Organizers: Chinese Academic Association of Social Welfare; School of Government, Center for Chinese Public Administration Research, SunYat-sen University; Japanese Society for the Study of Social Welfare; Korean Academy of Social Welfare
The conference has attracted 141 official representatives from 72 universities or academic institutions in China, America, Japan and Korea as well as more than 30 audience to an amount of above 170 attendance.
The theme is Welfare Regime and Better life. The report and discuss around the issues have lasted for 2 days with 22 academic events including meeting amid presidents of Social Welfare of China, Japan and Korea, meeting of deputies of social welfare committee, opening ceremony, 2 sessions of keynote speech, 15 panels, editors & readers conversation and closing ceremony. The participators have joined different session to share their research on the topic of welfare regime, children and disabled welfare, targeted poverty alleviation and social welfare, community governance and anti-poverty, and old-age security.

4. The 2nd International Higher Education Forum of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and the 2019 conference on Higher Education, Regional Innovation and Economic Growth: The Roles and Functions of the Universities in the Construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area
Date: November 30, 2019
Organizers: School of Government, Center for Chinese Public Administration Research, Institute of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau Development Studies, SunYat-sen University; Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance
Over 200 experts and scholars from renowned universities and research institutes from around world including University of California, Waseda University, Peking University, Fudan University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, University of Macau, and Renmin University of China have attended the conference.
The conference focused on the important issues of the roles and functions of universities in the construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, particularly paying attention to higher education, regional innovation and economic growth. In the keynote session, the reports concerned about the two topics: “First-Class Bay Area · National Strategy · University Mission” and “Science and Education Bay Area · Innovation and Entrepreneurship · University Mission”. As an expansion of the keynote speeches, the conference set 2 panels to discuss in detail on “Humanistic Bay Area · Cultural Integration · University Mission” and “International Bay Area · World Experience · University Mission”. At last, the conference ended with a round-table discussion on “Great Opportunities, Great Achievements, and Great Future: to Build A World-Class University and Serve the Development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area”.
During the conference, “the Higher Education Research of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Series” was released by the research group of Sun Yat-sen University which was the achievements on the relevant field.
