QS World University Rankings: SYSU Ranked No.47 for Social Policy & Administration Discipline

The result of the World University Rankings by Quacquarelli Symonds in 2019 was officially released recently. Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) had its social policy and administration discipline ranked No.47 in the world and top three in China only behind Beijing University and Tsinghua University. It implied that the social policy and administration at SYSU had become one of the best disciplines at home and abroad.

Social policy and administration as a discipline covers the fields of social policy, public policy and public administration that can all be categorized as public administration,a first-level discipline according to the Chinese Ministry of Education (CME). The public administration of discipline at SYSU was founded by Professor Xia Shuzhang, the father of this field in China. With continuous effort, a strong academic team of public administration has been formed at SYSU. The discipline now owns the Center for Chinese Public Administration Research (CCPAR), the only research base for public administration in China designated by the CME.  ​It has  also issued several journals such as the Journal of Public Administration (JAP) and Chinese Public Policy Review. Theses journals, which are all included in the Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index (CSSCI). In the 4th China Discipline Evaluation, public administration at SYSU ranked A (top 2%～5%) domestically. In the 2019 QS raking, not only is the discipline a top 50 in the world, it has also topped the list among other universities in China in terms of academic reputation, marking that the international academia highly recognizes the public administration discipline at SYSU for its international standard, impact and reputation.
