2018 Annual Review: Talents Cultivation and Scientific Research

The year 2018 is of special commemorative significance to School of Government for two important and monumental events: the centennial birthday of Professor Xia Shuzhang and the 30th anniversary of the restoration of the Department of Political Science and Administration. In this year, we witnessed again personality charm of the older generation, the industriousness of the Mesozoic scholars and the vigor of the new generation. Thanks to the effort they made together, School of Government has been developing in all aspects, and has achieved remarkable results in its development.

1. Students Education 

Won the Second prize of nationa teaching achievement award of higher education in 2018

 

Set up “Prof. Xia Shuzhang Award for Excelent Doctoral Dissertation in Public Administration” and released a result of the first time.

3. National Research Program

  • National Major Projects
    • Won 2 major projects of National Social Science Fund of China, 1 major project of special field.
    • Finished 2 major projects of National Social Science Fund of China.
  • National Annual Projects
    • Applied 12 projects of National Social Science Fund of China, 6 projects approved, with an approval rate of 50%.
    • Applied 12 projects of National Natural Science Fund of China, 5 projects approved including 2 general program and 3 youth program, with an approval rate of 41.7%.
    • Applied 15 projects of Humanities and Social Sciences research project by the Ministry of Education, 6 youth projects approved, with an approval rate of 40%.

4. New Academic Discipline Development

School of Government has started to build a new discipline of digital governance, which is cutting-edge and a hot issue of recent research in public administration. Allied with the Center of Chinese Public Administration Research and Institute of Governance of Sun Yat-sen University, SOG has founded a Research Center for Digital Governance, cooperating with some new technology companies such as Shadow Data Limited., Tencent and Alibaba Cloud. It aims to form a public platform for science research, teaching course, academic support and public service, to promote the development of mobile government, smart city, big data and public governance.

The Public Administration Natural Language Processing Project (pa-nlp) was launched by the Research Center for Digital Governance, Alibaba Cloud and Shadow Data Limited.. And the Public Administration Natural Language Processing Platform of Sun Yat-sen University was established in June, 2019, which was the first attempt in public administration in China and Sun Yat-sen University became the third university with such platforms besides Tsinghua University and Harbin Institute of Technology.
