Two Subjects of Our School Excelled in the 2021 Shanghai Ranking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects

Two first-level subjects, Public Administration and Politics, of Sun Yat-sen University were on the list of the 2021 ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects released on May 26, 2021 by ShanghaiRanking, a professional institute of evaluating higher education. Among them, Public Administration ranked 3 - 4 in Mainland Chinese universities and Politics ranked 2 - 8. 

The targets of ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects are universities with a certain number of papers in particular subjects published between 2015 to 2019, the data of which is from the Web of Science and Incites databases. The ranking evaluates the performance of global universities in related subjects through a series of internationally comparable and objective academic indicators. These include academic international authoritative awards, top academic achievements, high-level scientific research output, scientific research quality, and international cooperation and covers 54 subjects within five major fields: science, engineering, life science, medicine and social science. This time the ranking targeted over 4,000 global universities, with a total of more than 1,800 universities from 93 countries and regions on the final lists of various subjects. Mainland China has a total of 272 universities on the list, with 2,470 instances of mention, resulting in a rank that is second in the world.
